Here’s LLM!, You product has probably lost its moat
We are sponsoring a stand at Big Data London in September (swing by to stand Y760 and say heya if your there!)
And as part of our Swag I am designing some AgileData Poker Planning cards.
On each card I wanted to have a QR code that people could scan that takes them to a specific page on our website, one card = one landing page, so that's 52 QR codes.
In the past I would have used a SaaS QR code generation product to generate these QR codes for me.
That would require me to licence that SaaS product, and keep the licences going for as long as I wanted the QR codes to be valid. Fair enough I needed to generate QR codes, so fair value IMHO.
The thing that always made me uncomfortable was the SaaS product owned the QR code URL, they controlled where it went.
So I thought what would ChatGPT do?
And wallah, paste a URL in, tell it to generate a QR code for that URL and blow me down if i’m not an AgileData co-founder, it generated a valid QR code.
And that QR code points directly to the URL I can retain and control.
Job done.
If I was a SaaS company that generated QR codes, I think whatever moat I had, just got drained.
I think we will see this happen more and more as the LLM’s get more and more capable.
There are always two sides to the coin.
With the advent of LLM’s we have the ability to do some tasks at a speed we only dreamed of.
But then so does everybody else.
